We are proud to be a school actively involved in a wide variety of sporting and extra curricular activities, and we believe that all children should be given the opportunity to participate in lots of different experiences. Social well being is just as important as academic success!!
Football
Following the fantastic achievements of our local football club, we are fervently endearing to provide the stars of the future. Luckily we have coaches on hand to foster our talented stars of the future.
Hurling
We are proud to foster and cultivate our traditional sports and are fortunate to have local coaches provide hurling lessons for our pupils.
Swimming
Each year all pupils(Junior Infants to Sixth class) participate in swimming lessons in Roscommon swimming pool under the supervision of qualified swim instructors. The children’s learn to swim programme is certified by Swim Ireland, the National Governing Body for Swimming. The programme is designed around 8 progressive levels to provide comprehensive learning.
Arts and Crafts
Lismoil N.S. cherishes and nourishes the crafts of the past. All children have the opportunity to experience all aspects of the arts curriculum: construction, drawing, paint and colour, print, clay, fabric and fibre . We also have a proud tradition of knitting in the school and please visit our Art and Crafts gallery to admire some of the wonderful pieces created by our pupils.
Aistear

Farming in Lismoil
Aistear is the Irish word for journey. Aistear uses play to teach children. Playing helps children to build relationships, be creative, read, write, learn about numbers, think, use language and use small and large muscles.
We have free play on Mondays as we think it’s important for children to mingle and choose their own friends and play with what appeals to them. From Tuesday to Thursday we use Aistear. There are three play groups this year with three/four children in each group. The children follow a timetable and have a different activity each day. The children talk about what they did afterwards and this is nearly their favourite part. They thoroughly enjoy showing off their creations from junk art or during construction.
Aistear involves planning, playing, reflecting and tidy up. It provides integrated learning opportunities.
JEP (Junior Entrepreneur Programme)
The Junior Entrepreneur Programme (JEP) is a unique programme which involves 26,500 children who have created entrepreneurial businesses in their classrooms in Ireland. We are delighted to have received two JEP flags in Lismoil N.S. and we are currently working towards our third flag this year. The children absolutely love taking part and it is a great learning experience for all involved.
Musical/Dramatic Endeavours !
All children from 1st to 6th class are learning to read music and play the recorder.
Every second year we have a concert or play where all children from Infants to 6th class get to perform for their parents ,relatives and friends. This year our play took place in the church before Christmas. Our play entitled “Christmas Presents-A Nativity play ” told the story of the first Christmas and the audience brought presents for a hamper which we donated to the homeless shelter in Athlone. We would like to thank all the parents and other members of the audience for their generous support!
